Dr.(Mrs.) Mamta Chauhan was born on 27th April 1969 and did her schooling from Renuka, a small town in Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh. She did her graduation in science from H.P. university, Shimla. In 1994, she acquired her Master's degree in Biochemistry from National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal working in the field of biochemistry of reproduction with specialization on arerobic metabolism of goat's spermatozoa.

In December 1997, she joined as Scientist at National Research Centre on Equines,Hisar. She has worked in different research projects, which include the work on biochemichal analysis of blood and seminsal plasma in equines.

In her Doctorate degree in Biochemistry at CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, she worked on genetic characterization of equine breeds using microsatellite markers. Her primary area of interest is to find genetic relatedness and distancing among various indigenous equine breeds in order to draw a base line for characterizing them for conservation purpose.

Involvement in current research projects of NRCE

  1. Molecular markers based parentage testing in horses of Indian origin.
  2. Development of improved diagnostics against important viral and bacterial diseases of equines
    Sub Project
    a. Development of diagnostic(s) for pathogenic Streptococcus equi in equines
  3. Studies on high-level drug resistant bacteria in equines for search of sentinel microbes to use in predictive disease modeling and microbes with vector potential.
