Dr. Raj Kumar Singh was born on July, 2, 1958 and had his early education at Pratapgarh (UP). He obtained his B.V.Sc. & AH in 1982, MVSc (Veterinary Microbiology & Immunology) in 1984 from College of Veterinary Sciences & AH, CSA University of Agriculture & Technology, Mathura, India, and PhD (Veterinary Virology ) in 1994 from Indian Veterinary Research Institute (Deemed University), Izatnagar, India.
Dr. Singh served as Scientist S-1 (Dec. 1987 – Dec. 1992), Scientist (Senior Scale) (Jan. 1993 – July 1998); Scientist (SS)-cum-Course Coordinator (Biotechnology) (Jan. 1996 – July 1996); Senior Scientist (July 1998 – Dec. 2002) at National Biotechnology Centre, Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar- Bareilly (UP), India; Senior Scientist (Dec. 2-22, 2002) Division of Virology, Senior Scientist-cum- acting Head, Division of Virology (Dec. 2002 – July 2005). Later served has Head, Division of Virology. (July 2005 – Dec. 2006), Head of Division of Virology-cum-station-in-charge (SIC). (Dec. 2006 – Dec. 2008) at Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Campus Mukteswar-263138, Uttarakhand, India..
Dr. Singh is recipient of several National, State and University awards/honours viz. Special Academic Award of NAVS (India), ICAR Team Research Award for outstanding research contributions in Multi-disciplinary Team (2008); Dr Alfred Lingard Award for “Product-oriented research” awarded by Indian Society for Veterinary Immunology and Biotechnology (ISVIB) (2008); Fellow, Society of Immunology & Immunopathology (SIIP) (2007); Sir F.M. Burnett Memorial Award for best Team Research work entitled “Pen-side tests for diagnosis of PPR” awarded by Society for Veterinary Immunology and Biotechnology (ISVIB).(2006); Fellow, National Academy of Veterinary Sciences (India); FNAVS.(2006); Mid Career Scientist Award by Indian Society for Veterinary Immunology and Biotechnology (ISVIB) for scientific work in the fields of Veterinary Immunology and Biotechnology.(2006); Certification of Appreciation (Prashasti-Patra) by Indian Veterinary Research institute for significant contribution in development and spread of Rajbhasha Hindi, (2005); SPR’s Excellent Researcher Award by Society for Plant Research (India), (2005); Shyma Singh and Balamati Devi Memorial Award from Indian Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Sciences (IAAVR) for significant contribution in Microbiology & Biotechnology especially development of diagnostics and vaccines (2004); Dr P.K. Pani Research Award by Indian Poultry Science Association. (2003); Fellowship, Academy of Science for Animal Welfare [FASc(AW)]. (2003); Associateship, Academy of Science for Animal Welfare [AASc(AW)] (2003); Special Academic Award by National Academy of Veterinary Sciences (NAVS), India.(2002); IAVP Best Research Article Award for Best Paper published in IJVP.(2001); Membership of National Academy of Veterinary Sciences (India) for significant contribution to Veterinary Profession.(2000); Dr V.S. Dr. Singh has joined as Director, National Research Centre on Equines, and Veterinary Type Culture Centre, Hisar-125001, Haryana, India (December, 2008 onwards). He has been given the special additional duties to serve as Director of National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner.
Dr. Singh has vast experience and rich knowledge in disciplines of biotechnology, microbiology and virology. Besides this, Dr. Singh has special interest in climate changes environmental conservation, animal and microbial biodiversity conservation and capacity building.
Dr. Singh has supervised 8 Ph.D., 9 M.V.Sc. and 2, M.Sc. students. He has developed several vaccines and diagnostics. He also has 3 National patents in his name. He developed several technologies, vaccines and diagnostic kits. He also authored 2 books and contributed chapters in 15 books. He has published around 150 scientific research articles, Popular/Technical Articles/Reviews in peer reviewed National/International journals of high impact factor.
