Dr S.K.Khurana was born on February 1,1962 at Chandigarh. He has obtained his masters and doctorate degrees in Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology from CCSHAU, Hisar in the years 1987 and 2002, respectively. He was awarded Gold medal in the year 1980 for attaining 4th position in pre-medical examination of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. He was awarded University Merit Scholarship by Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and ICAR Merit scholarship during B.V.Sc and AH. He was also recipient of ICAR junior research fellowship for doing M.V.Sc in Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology. He was awarded certificate of merit / group leader by CCSHAU, Hisar for outstanding work in NSS during the year 1980-81. He received Professor R. M. Sharma Memorial award by AMI (Association of Microbiologists of India) for the best research paper in the field of Microbiology in the year 1996. He received Dr. K. S. Nayyar Memorial award and medal for the best research paper in the fields of Bacteriology/ Virology/ Parasitology in Indian Veterinary Journal in the year 1998. Besides, he had been recipient of several other awards for co-curricular activities at college and university level.

His areas of interest include equine diseases of bacterial, mycoplasmal and leptospiral origin including the diseases of zoonotic importance with special emphasis on epidemiological aspects especially sero-surveillance with an objective of prevention, control and eradication.

  1. Epidemiological studies on emerging and existing diseases of equines
  2. Studies on high-level drug resistant bacteria in equines for search of sentinel microbes to use in predictive disease modeling and microbes with vector potential
  3. Development of improved diagnostics against important viral and bacterial diseases of equines
